Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declares no Vaccination at Municipal and Government Centres in Mumbai
Shortly after the second wave hit Mumbai in June, the booster drive has taken a downturn in the state for the past two days. The private centres again have laid hold on administering doses. Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Pradeep Vyas in a statement said, “We look forward to having fresh stocks by July 2nd, the rate will be dependent on the availability of doses.” 9-10 lakh doses are expected to be received by the state 95.23 lakh doses were administered in June, the highest since the drive started. Till June 23rd, the State of Maharashtra had reached 7,38,450 while Mumbai hit 1.80 lakh vaccinations on June 28th. For three successive days that is June 21st, 22nd and 23rd Mumbai vaccinated more than lakh doses.

On Tuesday the vaccination coverage descended to 3.87 lakh and 2.54 lakh on Wednesday. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in a statement declared that citizens will not be vaccinated at Municipal and Government Centres in the city of Mumbai. The vaccines will only be available at private hospitals. “If they arrive, we will resume vaccination from Friday,” said Suresh Kakani, Additional Municipal Commissioner.

A request has been made by the Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope to the citizens to come out in large numbers for vaccination. He stated that the number of fully vaccinated is far from the desired numbers. After the sluggish performance in the last one month, now public vaccination centres are seeing a big chunk of people and the BMC and State Government are confident of the regular supply of vaccines and hope that the daily vaccination numbers will be even higher. The good news is that Maharashtra is now the number one state in terms of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered. It also became the first state to cross the 5 million doses of the Anti-Covid vaccine.
