Due to an increase in Covid-19 instances, the Maharashtra Government declared on Wednesday that all physical sessions in colleges and institutions across the state will be suspended and online classes will begin with immediate effect till February 15. Examinations scheduled for this period will also be performed online, with the exception of Gondwana, Jalgaon and Nanded universities, where regular power supply is a problem.
“It becomes really important for us to take precautionary measures as the cases increase. We have decided to suspend physical education lessons in colleges and universities until February 15 in accordance with the Chief Minister's orders. Exams planned around this time will also be conducted online. The decision on the post-February 15 examinations would be made in the coming days, according to State Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant.
On Tuesday, the Minister met virtually with District Collectors, Divisional Commissioners and Vice Chancellors of various universities to assess the situation. All universities, including deemed, self-financed, and private universities, are affected by the decision.
Students aged 15 to 18, as well as teaching and non-teaching personnel, who have not yet been vaccinated, should do so as soon as possible, according to Samant. “People who have not yet taken vaccination will have to take it on a priority basis." As the Center has permitted vaccination for the age group of 15 to 18 to participate, colleges and polytechnics must ensure that their first and second-year students are vaccinated. Vaccination camps can be held in collaboration with district collectors to achieve this."
