Mumbai: BMC did not receive an auction last week to buy one million doses of the vaccine. Sunday was the last day to receive a bid from interested bidders. The tender will close on May 18. On May 12, BMC became the first municipal corporation in the country to prepare a global tender for the purchase of vaccines.

The civic body gave the auctioneers six days to respond. Under the terms of the tender, bidders were required to submit tenders related to the tender by May 16. Officials at BMC indicated that the city council would extend the deadline. No bids were received until Sunday. We will wait until the last day of the EOI and decide to extend the deadline for tenders,” said P. Velrasu, Additional Municipal Corporation (Projects), which handles vaccine procurement.

BMC had submitted a tender to purchase one crore vaccine doses. In addition to Covishield and Covaxin, global vaccine companies include Sputnik V, Modena, Pfizer, Johnson, and Johnson. The company bidding for the supply of vaccines to Mumbai will have to obtain all the mandatory permits, including DCGI.
