The ruling party in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has demanded that only city candidates should be considered for municipal jobs.

In a notice of motion tabled before the civic general body meeting, senior Shiv Sena corporator Arvind Dudwadkar has demanded local candidates should be given priority for appointment in municipal jobs instead of candidates from other districts in the state.

Mr Dudwadkar said, “A lot of candidates from outside Mumbai apply for municipal jobs during the BMC’s recruitment drive. As they are more in numbers, the percentage of candidates from outside the city, who finally get selected, is also more than the selected city candidates. This is not fair to local candidates who are deprived of municipal jobs due to this.”

However, opposition leader in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Devendra Amberkar has slammed Shiv Sena’s demand.
