Mumbai to witness moderate to heavy rainfall today, BMC assures to prevent waterlogging

The weather department said that moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in the city on Friday. Mumbai is witnessing heavy rainfall over the last few days. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has said that various steps are taken to avoid waterlogging and serious incidents caused due to it in the city. BMC is monitoring the various cleaning projects in Mumbai. 
 
BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said that the nallas which are less than 6 meters are 100 percent clean in the 24 wards of Mumbai. The civic body faced a lot of criticism after various parts of the city were waterlogged soon after the first rain of monsoon season. BMC assured that various measures have been taken to prevent 171 places in the city and the suburbs from waterlogging.
 
The work on the remaining sites will be completed by the end of June. BMC officials also said that planning has already been done for the fast draining of rainwater from critical areas like Hindmata, Gandhi market, Chunabhatti - Kurla- Sion railway station premises. BMC has plans to construct a large underground water storage tank in Hindmata and Gandhi market.
