Mumbai sees rise in Covid 19 cases, stable in Maharashtra
As the curbs lift in the state of Maharashtra the cases seem to be rising, with the Covid 19 cases in Maharashtra being stable while the city of Mumbai noticing a high rise in cases which is above 400 a day. The state of Maharashtra on Friday recorded 4,313 new cases while 423 were from the city of Mumbai. Till the month end of August, the maximum city had been recording less than 400 new cases daily. 
 
As the festival begins, the state government seems to be busy about this, as speculations are being made of a surge in people gathering around the Ganpati Festival ahead of the expected third wave of Covid 19. Advisor of Maharashtra Government, on Covid 19 management Dr. Subhash Salunkhe, stated that this increase in cases is the mistake of the citizens.
 
“Again, becoming casual, people have started roaming outside. Many people don’t wear a mask and also if people are wearing it, can’t see them wearing them properly. Social distancing cannot be seen at all,” stated Dr. Subhash Salunkhe. Further speculating he stated that in the upcoming festive season there will be a rise in the Covid 19 cases. “As the festive season begins, and it is expected that people will meet and greet which is going to be inexpedient and there maybe once again rising in cases.” 
 
The state government has been advised by the Union Health Ministry to impose curbs at the time of the festive season to prevent the spread of Covid 19 infection and the expected third wave. “The city of Mumbai has been noticing the rise in cases, as the government guides people to celebrate Ganesh Festival minimally and on the other hand it also organises special buses for people going to Konkan region,” stated Dr. Ishwar Gilada, Secretary-General of Organised Medicine Academic Guild.
