A restaurant cum bar near Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai has been sealed for violating social distance norms, due to the rise in Covid-19 cases. The FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by BMC against the restaurant after 245 people were found there without wearing masks.  Social distance keeping standards were also not met.

BMC has imposed a fine of Rs 19,400 on 245 people found without masks at night. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray last week met representatives of the National Restaurant Association and Shopping Centers Association.  He stressed the need for Maharashtra to abide by the rules if it wants to avoid imitating Europe in terms of Covid-19 infection rate.  The meeting was called in the wake of reports that several malls and hotels had failed to comply with the Covid-19 guidelines. BMC launched an attack last month on Mumbai restaurants and pubs violating Covid norms amid a fresh rise in corona virus cases in the city and Maharashtra.

On Monday, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Toppe had said that the new lockdown was not the answer to the rising number of corona virus cases in the state.  However, he said the state government would impose strict restrictions. Meanwhile, Maharashtra, which has been ordered by the state government to impose restrictions in various districts, reported 23,179 new corona virus cases and 84 deaths on Wednesday, according to the health bulletin.  This is the highest ODI number of new Covid-19 cases in 2021.  The capital, Mumbai, reported 2,377 new cases of the corona virus on Wednesday.  In the last 24 hours, eight people have been infected in the city, according to government figures.
