Mumbai Test Positivity Rate for Covid-19 jumped past 2 percent after almost a week
Mumbai’s test positivity rate for Covid 19 jumped past 2 percent after almost a week. The TPR had dropped below 2 percent on June 28 and was 1.48 percent on Tuesday. However, it rose to 2.07 percent on Wednesday. The first time in 10 days, the city’s test positivity rate went up to 2 percent.  While the positivity rate has been swinging between 1.4% and 1.7% since June 28. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials credited Wednesday’s marginal rise to focalized testing. The positivity rate came down to 1.4% on Thursday.

“If there’s a positivity rate of 2 percent that means that the circumstances are still in control. This increase in the margin shows that the strategy we are using which is targeted and focussed is working.  As we are moderately opening the city due to which the movement of people has increased which could be one factor of contributing to positive cases” said Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has been doing continuous and focused testing for people having close contacts with positive patients, those living in containment zones and wards which are recording the maximum number of cases, stated Kakani
The positivity rate has to be matched up with the number of tests carried out in the city of Mumbai. Generally, as the number of tests goes down the positivity rate shows a rise. The daily test in the city of Mumbai has been going up and down between 30,000 and 35,000. On Wednesday, when Mumbai carried out 31,944 tests, the city’s positivity rate went up to 2% with 664 positive cases. On Thursday, the city carried out 37,802 tests and its positivity rate dropped to 1.4% with 540 cases.
