Mumbai: In preparation for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) general elections, the State Election Commission (SEC) has supplied a massive stock of 25,000 ballot units and 20,000 control units to the civic body. This marks one of the most crucial logistical steps ahead of the polls, ensuring that voting arrangements are fully operational and ready across the city. All of the election machinery has been shifted to secure civic storage facilities, with stringent police protection to maintain complete safety and transparency throughout the process.

The BMC has arranged two large dedicated warehouses to store the electronic voting equipment. Representatives from multiple political parties were present to observe and verify the receipt and storage of the units, making the entire procedure transparent. According to officials, 10,800 control units and 13,500 ballot units have been transferred to the primary EVM warehouse located at the ground floor of the BMC School Complex at Varsha Nagar, Veer Savarkar Marg, Vikhroli Park Site, Vikhroli (West). The premises have been fortified with round-the-clock police surveillance to avoid any tampering, unauthorized access, or internal movement without proper monitoring.

In addition to Vikhroli, the remaining 9,200 control units and 11,500 ballot units have been stocked at another significant EVM warehouse situated on the ground floor of the civic building at Sanskriti Complex, A-Wing, near St. Lawrence High School, 90-Feet Road, Thakur Complex, Kandivali (East). Election authorities have taken every precaution to guarantee that both storage hubs follow strict safety measures, including sealed entry points, CCTV surveillance, official logging of every entry and exit, and deployment of trained police personnel.

The SEC and BMC administration have emphasized that the systematic allocation and security of these units are essential to ensure a flawless voting process across Mumbai. With more than 25,000 polling stations expected to be set up in various parts of the city, the stock of ballot and control units ensures full backup support in case any machine faces technical issues on voting day. Officials clarified that machines have been checked before dispatch and will undergo another round of testing before being transported to polling booths.

This step also signals that preparations for the BMC elections have entered their final phase, and the next schedule includes mock polling demonstrations, dry runs, and training sessions for polling officers. The civic administration wants to ensure that every presiding and assistant presiding officer, as well as voting staff, are well-acquainted with the functioning of ballot and control units to avoid delays during live voting.

Political parties have also increased their vigilance, as EVM handling remains one of the most sensitive aspects of any election. Party representatives who witnessed the storage procedure stated that they were satisfied with the transparency and security measures implemented by the BMC and the SEC. Many of them highlighted that such openness builds the public’s trust toward the electoral process and prevents rumors or doubts related to the safety of voting equipment.

All ballot units and control units will stay inside the Vikhroli and Kandivali warehouses until the official schedule for dispatch is issued by the SEC. Once the final list of polling booths is confirmed, the machines will be sent to every ward under police escort. It has been strictly instructed that no equipment will be relocated without one senior election officer and representatives from political parties present during the handover. RFID-based tagging of machines and digital tracking logs have also been put in place for additional safety.

With the arrival of the complete set of election machinery, Mumbai is now almost fully geared up for polling day. Officials have mentioned that the security around the warehouses will be further tightened as election day draws closer. After the voting procedure ends, the same warehouses will serve as the strong rooms where the ballot and control units will be sealed until the counting of votes.

The successful reception of 25,000 ballot units and 20,000 control units marks a significant milestone in Mumbai's election preparations, reflecting the administration’s focus on systematic planning, security, and transparency. As the city awaits the electoral battle that will determine the leadership of Asia’s richest civic body, the logistical framework is now firmly in place — all eyes are on the next stage of the election countdown.
