Mumbai Corporators seeks more time to use their allotted budget

The corporators of Mumbai have demanded to extend the deadline of using their funds. However, the decision to extend the deadline will be taken by the election commission and so with code of conduct to be applied soon the councillor’s fear that their demand might not be fulfilled.On Friday, at the BMC’s general body meeting, the councillors claimed that they were unaware about the deadline as their group leaders did not alert them.
 
Waqarunnisa Ansari, Congress councillor said, “The group leaders of all parties do not inform about any work or letters issued in the meetings and are so careless. We were not even informed that we cannot use the councillor funds after December 7 due to which many works are pending.”
 
Trushna Vishwasrao, Shiv Sena party leader, said, “It is not our fault that the opposition’s group leaders have not informed their party members. The house would not consider this.”
 
Anisha Majgaonkar, MNS Corporator, said, “The BMC server was down for 15 days and our e-tenders were delayed for many days. We could not issue work orders or purchase orders.” Meanwhile, other ward members also claimed that the wards located in the far end of the suburbs did not get the notice of the funds being seized.
