Shiv Sena corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar and Congress corporator Ram Ashish Gupta have raised a point of order in the BMC general assembly, seeking a ban on selfies at possibly dangerous locations.

This demand comes in the wake of drowning at Bandra Bandstand, where three girls fell into the water while taking pictures. One of the girl died along with a local who jumped into the water to save the girls.

The two corporators have moved a notice of motion in the general assembly to ban selfies and fine those caught taking them. They have also demanded to put signs of no selfie zone and security be installed to ensure rules are followed.

Abhishek Ghosalkar also demanded to install CCTV cameras at beaches and other public places. His proposal will be discussed in the assembly on February 15.
