Ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2022, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Ashish Shelar, Atul Bhatkalkar, and music artist Bharat Balvalli have been sent with a legal notice for allegedly defaming Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi. She also ordered that they issue a written apology for their behaviour. According to the notice, Shelar falsely stated during a news conference that Chaturvedi had insulted Hindutva icon Veer Savarkar and threatened to initiate a statewide "Andolan" unless she apologised. BJP leaders Ashish Shelar, Atul Bhatkalkar, and music artist Bharat Balvalli have been sent with a legal notice for allegedly defaming Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi. She also ordered that they issue a written apology for their behaviour.

According to the notice, Shelar falsely stated during a news conference that Chaturvedi had insulted Hindutva icon Veer Savarkar and threatened to initiate a state-wide "Andolan" unless she apologised. Following her expulsion from the Rajya Sabha, Chaturvedi resigned as host of the Sansad TV show "Meri Kahaani." Her decision came only days after she was suspended from the winter session along with 12 other opposition MPs for allegedly causing a commotion on the last day of the monsoon session. The ban occurred after Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi wrote Vice President and RS Chairman Naidu a letter on Monday concerning violence on the streets.

"I believe it is my duty," Chaturvedi added, "that today the biggest number of women MPs in the history of the Rajya Sabha has been suspended for a whole session for standing up for the people of this country, then I need to speak up for them and stand in solidarity for them." Not to mention the fact that 12 MPs were suspended for a complete session for their conduct during the previous session, which has never happened before in the history of parliament,” had stated Chaturvedi.
