Mumbai: The drive-in vaccination centre set up by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has given 417 people jobs with the Covid-19 vaccine, a civil servant said. The city’s first drive-in vaccination centre was launched by the Civil Body on Tuesday. Vaccination doses are available for special needs and senior citizens while in the vehicle.
The facility is set up in the parking lot of the Kohinoor Tower in Dadar area to vaccinate people above 45 years of age. There are two waiting booths in each row for 50 vehicles before vaccination and about 100 vehicles can be parked during the post-vaccination monitoring period, officials said. If a person who has received a job has an adverse reaction, he or she can sound the horn.
Officials said the vaccine has the potential to vaccinate up to 5,000 people a day if adequate doses are available. BMC has opened 135 vaccination centers across Mumbai. The vaccination started on January 16 this year. As of Tuesday evening, the city had delivered 24,86,827 vaccine doses, the civic body said.
BMC said it expects to receive one lakh vaccine doses by Tuesday night. Therefore, vaccinations for those over 45 years of age will be held on Wednesday from 12 noon to 5 pm. The Civil Body said that registration is mandatory for those taking the first dose and those taking the second dose can go without registration. People between the ages of 18 and 44 will be given the vaccine dose only at the five existing centers from 9 am to 5 pm.
