On Friday afternoon, the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police's Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) uncovered a prostitution ring that was operating out of a lodge on Mira Road. While the establishment's management and four waiters were arrested for enabling prostitution, the police squad saved a young woman from the grasp of flesh trade racketeers. The true beneficiaries, including the establishment's operator and owners, are still at large.

Acting on a tip, Senior Police Inspector Sampatrao Patil, under the supervision of DCP (crime) Dr. Mahesh Patil, dispatched a dummy customer to the Hotel Sai Regency in Bhayandar's Indralok neighbourhood (east). The squad swooped on the establishment after receiving confirmation of the ongoing meat trading activities and detained the perpetrators. After the proper paperwork, the rescued woman was taken to a charity home. The racketeers allegedly contacted potential customers by sharing images of women via WhatsApp.

The accused have been remanded in custody after being charged under section 370 of the IPC and sections 3, 4, 5 of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA). Although it is neither a business centre nor a tourist destination, the twin-city, particularly the highway belt in Kashimira, has established a reputation for having the most lodges in its jurisdiction.
