After slashing the funds of the Civic Standing Committee by Rs 100 crore, the city government is likely to reduce the fund of the Civil General Body, also known as the Mayor's Fund, by Rs 50 crore. Only Rs 75 crore has been earmarked for disbursement to corporates instead of the Rs 125 crore set aside for Mayor Kishori Pednaker last year.
Pednaker on Tuesday visited civic group leaders and Chahal and he demanded to allow at least Rs 125 crore. Corporators need more money for development activities in their constituencies. Last month, amid a dispute over the misuse of funds by corporators, the BMC government had slashed the Urban Standing Committee's and amendment the fund by Rs 100 crore in this year's budget.
As Compared to last year's budget allocation of `750 crore, this year the Standing Committee has been allotted `only 650 crore for civic standing committee. Contacted Pednekar said that "These funds are not anyone's private funds," he said. They are funds for corporates to carry out development activities. This is an election year where we expect the government to provide more funds to corporators,”Pednaker said.
