Mayor makes statement on Lockdown

Mumbai: Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar has called for a complete lockdown in Maharashtra in view of the rising number of corona virus cases and violations of the Covid guidelines.  About 95 per cent of Mumbaikars adhere to the Covid-19 regulations, while the remaining 5 per cent do not comply with the regulations and cause problems for others, the news agency ANI was told. Approximately 95% of Mumbaikars comply with COVID19 regulations. The remaining 5% of non-compliant people cause problems for others.   

 

Earlier, they had stressed the need for a complete lockdown in Maharashtra as cases of corona virus were on the rise.  They also warned that a strict lockdown would be imposed if Covid-19 standards aimed at preventing the spread of the virus continued to be ignored.  People's persistence and disregard for standards compel us to consider imposing a lockdown or an overnight curfew,”Pednecker told News18. In Mumbai, 5,61,998 cases of 8,839 new Covid-19 cases were reported on Friday. 

 

Another 53 patients became infected.  According to updated data from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the total number of new cases of COVID-19 in the financial capital rose to 5,61,998 while the toll rose to 12,242.  More than 600 COVID-19 cases and four deaths have been reported in the city since the previous day.  Mumbai recorded 8,217 new infections and 49 deaths on Thursday. BMC said the number of samples tested so far has risen to 48,51,752 from 50,533 Covid-19 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.  According to BMC, there are 97 container zones in Mumbai with slums and ditches.  

The number of sealed buildings in the city is 1,169.  Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said.  -19 Test Reports As soon as possible, staff should ensure optimal medical oxygen supply and effective bed and medicine management.  The Chief Minister presided over the review meeting on the Covid-19 situation in Mumbai.  BMC Commissioner IS Chahal was also present.  Chahal said the 153 Covid hospitals in Mumbai have 20,400 beds and will increase it to 22,000 by next week.
