Mayor appreciates BMC’s Garden department, after its tree care technique published in UK magazine
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials have been appreciated by Mayor Kishori Pednekar after a publication of the tree-care technique of painting trunks in red painting trunks in red and white, which includes Sinopia and lime, in the UK’s Arboricultural Association Magazine.
 
In the publication the Jeetendra Pardesi’s article who is the Superintendent of gardens, he explains the importance and use of geru and white lime, which was published in the official magazine of the UK’s Arboricultural Association. While appreciating the officials of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mayor Kishori Pednekar stated that this will be the proudest moment for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) as the technique which was very old has been mentioned in the UK’s Arboricultural Association Magazine.
 
“In the past, Sultan Tuanku Sallehuddin of Malaysia’s Kedah state had shown interest in this age-old technique of protecting trees. This method is helping the trees to not catch any type of fungus infection,” stated Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Friday with an appreciation letter to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Garden Department for their mention in the UK’s Arboricultural Association Magazine. 
 
 
The city of Mumbai in total has about 29 lakh trees and 1,068 is the open spaces. The method of Jeetendra Paredesi, published in UK’S Arboricultural Association Magazine, states that geru is acidic, and the lime which is used for painting is alkaline. This combination of geru and lime helps in the protection of trees from fungal disease and pest attacks.
 
“This method not only has one benefit but many one of which is helping in keeping away the infestation of termites in trees,” stated the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official from the garden department Jeetendra Pardesi.
