Ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections 2022, the civic has finally after a long wait of 2 years has identified private land for acquisition to acquire salt pan land for the construction of the Mahul Pumping Station. The land is owned by Ajmera Realty and Infrastructure India Ltd. Not only the land but Transferred Development Rights (TDR) and compensation value the land will be exchanged for one of its plots of the same size. 
 
The size of the private plot goes up to 15,500 sqm and will be exchanged with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) whose plot measures 13,390 sqm. And for the land which is remaining will be given to the realtor. A meeting will be held in this regard and this issue will be tabled in front of the improvement committee. 
 
If the Mahul Pumping Station is constructed successfully it will be a great relief to the people living in Gandhi Market, Matunga, King’s Circle, and Sion from inundation. This construction plan for these areas was in line for the past 2 years. Some lands were identified as salt pan lands near the proposed project by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and after that, it was written to the salt commissioner asking for its transfer to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). 
 
But the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) did not get any response from the corporators, after which Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had urged Prime Minister in a virtual meeting in the year 2020 to get the transfer as soon as possible.
