MUMBAI: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde recently traveled to Delhi, where he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Addressing speculation surrounding his visit, Shinde dismissed claims that his trip aimed to resolve internal tensions with his Mahayuti allies. He clarified that the purpose of the visit was to extend his personal congratulations to PM Modi on the successful completion of Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev. Following this, he held a one-on-one discussion with the Prime Minister.

Shinde was accompanied by several MPs from his party during his meeting with Amit Shah. Notably, this was his third visit to the national capital within a month, sparking discussions within political circles about whether he and his faction were feeling isolated within the Mahayuti coalition. Responding to these theories, Shinde addressed the media by stating that his faction of the Shiv Sena had shown strong performances in the past two elections and was confident of a repeat victory in the upcoming local body elections, including the much-anticipated BMC polls.

During a press conference, Shinde was all praise for Modi and Shah. He highlighted Amit Shah’s achievement as the longest-serving Home Minister in India’s history, having completed a continuous tenure of 2,258 days. Shinde said they had come to express heartfelt congratulations for this milestone. Commending Shah’s leadership, he stated that Shah had proven to be a bold and visionary decision-maker — from the revocation of Article 370, which aligned with the vision of Balasaheb Thackeray, to spearheading Operation Mahadev, aimed at fighting terrorism and curbing Naxal activities.

Shinde further said Shah's contributions to the country ranged from cooperative reforms to ensuring national security, and described his leadership as “firm, focused, and far-reaching.”

On being asked about the potential alliance between Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray, Shinde took a subtle jab. He remarked that electoral success comes from one's work, not just legacy or family names. “People don’t cast their votes based on surnames or who joins hands with whom. They vote for those who deliver. Sitting idle won't fetch results,” he said. He added that while political alliances are every party’s prerogative, the ultimate decision lies in the hands of the public.

When questioned about Uddhav Thackeray attending the INDIA alliance meeting scheduled for August 7, Shinde chose not to respond.
Further into the interaction, the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leader declared unconditional support to the BJP-led NDA in the upcoming vice-presidential election. He reiterated that his party continues to be one of the most dependable and long-standing partners of the NDA, dismissing any speculations of fractures within the alliance.

The visit and Shinde’s assertive stance indicate a calculated effort to show unity within the ruling coalition ahead of the crucial Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, expected to be held later this year. Amid growing chatter about shifting loyalties and internal dissatisfaction within Mahayuti, Shinde’s reaffirmation of faith in the central leadership aims to present a united front.

As the political heat in Maharashtra rises, especially around BMC — the richest municipal corporation in India — Shinde’s latest outreach to Modi and Shah could play a key role in shaping voter sentiment and alliance dynamics in the coming months.
