Following the Centre's insistence on keeping a close eye on the situation and taking proactive measures to prevent the spread of infection, the state cabinet examined the situation. COVID 19 instances have surged in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, and Ahmednagar.
Maharashtra is not yet "mask-free," although wearing one is not required, according to the state government.
The state government is closely monitoring the situation and will make the "correct decision at the appropriate time" depending on the current situation. The state government is pushing for a faster immunization schedule for children aged 12 to 15 and 15 to 18 years old.
The State Cabinet meeting chaired by CM Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday reviewed the surge in Covid cases and concluded that the situation is under control and there is no need to panic, just days after the Centre advised Maharashtra to keep a close eye on the situation and take pre-emptive action to control the spread of infection. The Centre's warning came after 879 new cases were discovered in Maharashtra between April 13 and April 20. While there are still 690 active patients in the state, the death rate remains at 1.87 percent.
According to Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope, the state government is monitoring the situation and would make the "correct judgement at the appropriate time" depending on the current situation. While wearing masks in public is not required in Maharashtra, the minister advised senior individuals and people with comorbidities to do so as a precaution.
The state cabinet, according to the minister, agreed that the immunization rate for youngsters aged 12 to 15 and 15 to 18 years needed to be increased. He went on to say that the district administration would be instructed to increase its efforts in this area. "A booster dose is not required," he emphasized, "but those who wish to do so can do so after undergoing a thorough evaluation in private institutions."
