According to NCRB figures, Maharashtra had the second-highest number of cases of human trafficking last year after Telangana. 880 ladies and 10 males in all were freed from human trafficking last year. Additional investigation showed that the majority of the victims that were rescued had been exploited, either by being forced into prostitution, labour, or forced marriage.

According to the data, there were 2,189 cases of human trafficking reported nationwide last year. There were 347 of these cases reported in Telangana, 320 in Maharashtra, 203 in Assam, and 201 in Kerala. In total, 6,533 victims were trafficked across the nation, according to a more thorough review of the data; the majority of these victims were taken to Odisha (1,475), followed by Maharashtra (918) and Telangana (796).

In terms of the Maharashtra human trafficking situation, there were 918 victims in total, 858 of whom were women. In Maharashtra, 890 victims were saved overall last year, including 10 men. Further investigation showed that of the victims saved, 856 were subjected to forced prostitution for sexual gain, 16 were subjected to forced labour, and three were subjected to forced marriage.

Police Inspector General Human trafficking attorney Deepak Pandey stated, "More cases indicate more gangs involved in human trafficking are being neutralised. The majority of people are trafficked to cities like Delhi and Mumbai. The problem of human trafficking will persist as long as prostitution is in vogue. It's critical to permanently shut down brothels. Even our constitution explicitly forbids forced labour and human trafficking.
