The Maharashtra Government established a five-member committee on Wednesday under the leadership of Madhukar Kokate, a former chairman of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission, in a serious effort to increase the number of tribal candidates in various competitive examinations and the rate at which they succeed in these exams.

The committee's mandate is to recommend strategies for raising the proportion of tribal candidates who appear in competitive tests, as well as strategies for providing these candidates with training that is focused on results so that many of them pass these exams. The group will also suggest modifications to the current training courses. The government made this declaration after reviewing the department, particularly the low rate of tribal students qualifying to take and pass competitive exams, under the leadership of the newly appointed Minister for Tribal Development Vijaykumar Gavit.

The committee will examine the coaching provided, according to a government resolution released today by Prakash Vaje, desk officer for the tribal development department. by the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute, the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Research and Training Institute, and the Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Research Training and Human Development Institute (SARTHI) for various competitive exams and recommend actions to increase the proportion of tribal candidates who pass these competitive exams who are hired by the government and semi-government organisations.

The committee will also express its opinion on whether a separate academy should be established for the tribal candidate to offer preparation for various competitive tests. The state-tribal department has acknowledged that a thorough overhaul of training is required because tribal candidates' success rates in competitive exams for state and federal civil service positions and other positions were extremely low when compared to candidates from other social groups. The department has blamed the remote tribal candidates' inadequate financial resources for the low success rate. The tribal pupils continued their study against the obstacles, but they lacked the necessary preparation to pass competitive tests.
