On Wednesday, a motion to congratulate Droupadi Murmu and Jagdeep Dhankhar on their election as the President and Vice President of India was approved by a unanimous vote in both houses of the state legislature. The resolution was introduced by the Chief Minister of the state, Eknath Shinde, in the state assembly and by the Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, in the council.
Ajit Pawar and Ambadas Danve, the opposition's leaders in the State Assembly and Council, respectively, seconded it. Pawar stated that it was decided at the Business Advisory Committee meeting that the senior leaders and the legislative party leaders of other opposition parties would be permitted to speak on the motion.
This was followed by Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar's announcement that the motion had been unanimously approved. However, he pointed out to the Speaker that they were denied the chance and argued that they ought to have been permitted.
Narvekar, however, declared that the motion had been approved and that he had now called for discussion on another item on the day's agenda. Fadnavis interrupted and acknowledged that although the BAC meeting was held, no decision was made. He added that allowing other leaders to speak after the Speaker has announced another item on the agenda would not be improper for the chamber.
