Several commuters have claimed that the Central Railway (CR) trains are routinely running late, with a 10-minute delay on the slow line and a 20-minute delay on the fast line. The CR reasoned that the delay is mostly due to two factors: first, maintenance work on various portions like as Dombivli-Diva and Thane-Kalwa, among others.

The CR's frantic attempt to achieve the March 31 freight and commodities transit deadline is the second reason. On March 30, the CR surpassed the previous record of 75 million tonnes of freight and goods carried, which was reached between April 20, 2021, and March 28, this year. "We have to accomplish our targets for this fiscal year; therefore, freight trains get priority."

From April, the cargo push will be reduced slightly, which will aid in the improved operation of local and passenger trains, according to a CR official. Other factors, such as unanticipated technological difficulties, contribute to the delay. For example, due to a mechanical problem, a locomotive, Train number 22108 Latur to CSMT, came to a halt at 7.05 a.m. on Wednesday between Badlapur and Ambernath sections.

Local trains travelling from Karjat, Badlapur, and Ambernath to Kalyan and CSMT were impacted during the morning peak hours. Local trains on the Khardi-Umbermali downline were again disrupted in the evening. A motorman reported a fire in dry grass along the downline track around 4.35 P.M.

It took about an hour to put out the fire and get things back to normal. On March 29, a signal failure in Thane disrupted railway services once more. Local trains have been subjected to speed limitations ranging from 15 to 75 kilometers per hour, causing congestion and delays. The speed limits are likely to be lifted soon when the local trains that have been creating delays have been completed. Officials expect the speed limitations to be lifted soon when the track maintenance is completed.
