The CM convened an emergency review meeting with the task force after noticing a large increase in COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra. The Mumbai Police Department imposed Section 144 across the city yesterday, which will last till January 7. From December 30 to January 7, New Year's celebrations and gatherings in any closed or open location, including restaurants, hotels, taverns, pubs, resorts, and clubs, are prohibited under the new COVID-19 limitations.
On Friday, the State Health Department of Maharashtra recorded 8,067 new coronavirus infections, up 50% from the day before, with eight deaths. Four Omicron variant infections were among the new cases, according to the report. As of Thursday, the state had reported 5,368 new coronavirus cases. "Today, four occurrences of Omicron have been recorded in the state, one each from Vasai-Virar, Navi Mumbai, Mira-Bhayander and Panvel," according to the official release.
