Bombay High Court: BMC and State keep sanitation the Priority at government hospitals in Maharashtra
To give the utmost priority to the disposal of bio-medical wastes and hygiene at civic government hospitals in Mumbai and all over the Bombay High Court said that the hospitals must be faultless. While listening to a PIL for special masks for people with speech and hearing disabilities and the related problem of disposal of masks the bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Girish Kulkarni stated that “special attention should be given to these issues now, that should become the priority now.”

The judges asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to look into the matter and pay attention to the unhygienic condition of its hospitals by stating that there is a need for a particular system to deal with all this, as a large number of people visit the facility daily. “We want the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to look on to the matter and make sure to keep a check on its cleanliness. Every hospital should be prepared with a committee to maintain the hygiene” said Justice Kulkarni to the Senior

Advocate Anil Sakhare of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Citing the example of Malegaon Civil Hospital where a committee was formed along with the MLA, Corporator, and the Municipal Commissioner Justice Kulkarni stated that “In just the time frame of 15-20 days the hospital was looking like a private hospital. Nothing is impossible when one has the will”.

The judges in the discussion focused that not only the municipal corporations but all hospitals and the clinics over the state must
keep cleanliness. The judges stressed the point that not only the reception should be good but also every corner of the hospital. “It should not be the case that the entrance point of the hospital is good and on the first floor it is all messed, keep the sanitation the top priority” stated Justice Kulkarni.
