Supreme Court: It should be made sure that cities don’t become polluted like Mumbai
The Supreme Court on Friday stated that it should be made sure by the Union and State Governments that small cities don’t get polluted just like the city of Mumbai. This statement from the Supreme Court came while describing the capital of Maharashtra as one of the most polluted cities in the country. It was stated by judges Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud and MR Shah that cities that are smaller need to be protected from diverse changes that a big city of Mumbai went through.

The bench stated that the condition of the small cities will become the same as the city of Mumbai. The comments from the court came when the Urban Development Ministry informed that the norms for effluent discharge by Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in water bodies cannot be the same for all the cities. The bench further stated that everyone has the right to have the same quality of life.
