On Thursday, police said they were looking for a guy who reportedly defrauded approximately six people in Maharashtra out of Rs 13.34 lakh under the guise of securing them jobs with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Sunil Prabhakar Khotre, a resident of Tilak Nagar in the Chembur neighbourhood of Mumbai, allegedly promised the victims clerical and other positions in the BMC's conservancy department and stole the money over the last year, according to Naupada Police Station Inspector S. G. Hattekar.

The defendants also provided the victims with forged appointment letters, ID cards, and police and medical verification letters. The victims then realised they had been duped and approached Thane police, according to the source. According to him, the police filed an FIR against the accused on Wednesday under relevant rules and initiated a search for him.
