In response to a spike in COVID-19 cases, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray directs Administration and District Guardian Ministers to speed up immunisation

In the wake of an increase in COVID 19 and Omicron Variant cases in Maharashtra, as well as a drop in daily vaccinations to below 5 lakhs from 8 lakhs, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who virtually chaired the state cabinet meeting on Monday, asked the administration to speed up the vaccination process. He also stated that he will chair a meeting of the COVID 19 Task Force in a few days to consider additional measures to combat the virus's outbreak. The state cabinet is very concerned about the increase in instances. Thackeray urged the district guardian ministers to speed up immunisation efforts in their districts. On Sunday, 84,191 people were vaccinated, bringing the total number of people vaccinated in the state to 13,10,21,074.

 

The CM's instruction came at a time when daily COVID 19 positive cases, which used to be 600 to 700 per day, had risen to 1,400 per day, and the total number of Omicron Variant cases had risen to 167, with 72 of them being discharged after receiving negative RTPCR results. The state announced 1,426 new COVID 19 positive cases and 26 new Omicron Variant cases on Monday. There are 10,441 active cases in the state as of today.

 

The number of active patients increased by 63.56 percent to 10,441 on December 27 from 6,200 on December 8, according to the Public Health Department's Assistant Chief Secretary, Dr. Pradeep Vyas. The number of COVID 19 positive patients in the state has increased threefold in the last six days. A weekly positive rate of 1.06 percent was recorded by State. According to Dr. Vyas, active COVID 19 cases are predicted to increase around mid-January. Even those who are properly vaccinated, Thackeray encouraged citizens last week to closely follow the covid acceptable behaviour.
