Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray warned the citizens of lockdown once again in the state, stating that the stock of medical oxygen has not improved significantly and if the state's demand for it per day touches 700 metric tonnes, then the government will have to impose restrictions in the state once again.
The state of Maharashtra on Saturday added 4,575 fresh infections which have taken the total caseload to 6,420,510. The city of Mumbai recorded 262 new cases and five deaths. Which has taken the caseload of the city to 740,870 with the death toll rising to 15,946.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray while inaugurating a paediatric Covid 19 care centre in Santacruz, stated to the citizens that even if the cases are declining, no one has to let their guards down and said that one should not forget that we are still not free from this pandemic and should follow all the necessary protocols. He further stated that the political parties should also understand the situation and not hold any such gathering that can endanger the lives of citizens.
“The daily need of medical oxygen currently for Covid patients is 200MT and for patients who don’t have Covid 19 is 250MT. We have increased our daily production from 1,700MT to 2,100MT,” stated a senior government official. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray noticing this point stated that if the third wave hit the state with increased intensity than the second wave, the production needed per day will have to be increased at 4,000MT.
“The threat which is due to Covid 19 has not passed yet, so this is an appeal to all the citizens to behave responsibly and I emphasize that our oxygen stock has not improved significantly, and in this case, if the demand for oxygen goes up to 700MT per day for Covid patients, the government will announce complete lockdown,” stated Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
