Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). It was decided to give representation to an additional Muslim cemetery in the city within two weeks. Covid deaths, especially in Govandi, Chembur, Wadala, and Oshiwara. The High Court ruled in favor of Samshar Sheikh and two other Govandi residents, Mohammad Abrar and Abdul Rahman.
The High Court said the BMC should give valid reasons after their lawyer, Altaf Khan, said on May 6 that their representation should be considered as urgent steps are needed to provide more space for community members to secure a decent burial ground during the Covid-19 crisis. Applicants for the additional cemetery were rejected, and the reasons must be communicated to them. BMC said in the PIL that it has a mandatory duty to resolve its grievances
