Mumbai: Bombay High Court Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Girish Kulkarni have expressed frustration over the BMC’s decision not to introduce door-to-door vaccination unless the Centre allows it.

Civic lawyer Anil Sakhare said BMC had expressed global interest in purchasing one crore vaccines on May 11. The affidavit states that the court will abide by the order once the famine is over. The bench questioned why BMC was chosen to provide the vaccines. Dhruthi Kapadia and Kunal Tiwari, advocates for helplines for the elderly, the bedridden, and the disabled, we're hearing a public interest petition.

BMC was told on Wednesday if it was ready to start house-to-house for adults. People in bed, let it go. On May 15, a panel of experts appointed by the Centre had directed to take the elderly to special job sessions. The Centre's submission that adverse events following immunization (AEFI) are worrying and that the protocol requires a 30-minute wait after the job.

Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh said the Berhampur house-to-house vaccination for senior citizens and persons with disabilities was successfully conducted on May 17 but it has now been discontinued. The High Court said it was not stopped due to AEFI incidents.

When Kapadia read out the response of a minister in Parliament that the percentage of AEFI was only 0.2 percent with 7,580 cases for vaccinations as on January 31, 2021, the bench told ASG that this is what your minister is saying, that you use AEFI to avoid starting house-to-house vaccinations.

Your minister's statement completely shattered this cause. Adverse events were fever, pain, rash or headache, and dizziness, the High Court commented, with 12 or 0.0003% of deaths. The court's concern was that no individual, no matter how vulnerable or elderly, should be excluded from the vaccination process.

It repeated what it said in April that the elderly disabled should not choose the devil and the deep sea. They will either die of covid or comorbidity. The High Court wanted to know if there was any scientific information about the post-Jab complications and their extent. If the UK, the equivalent of the vaccination cove shield, can go door-to-door, why not here? Justice Kulkarni asked.
