Mumbai: Helpdesks to be set up in 24 wards ahead of the BMC elections
As the civic elections approach the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has set out a plan to keep the facility of helpdesk in all the 24 municipal wards so that a buzz around the polls is generated and work as a help for citizens to get enrolled in the voting list.

In a statement, the Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani stated that from Monday these helpdesks will be set up in the Municipal Buildings like all the schools and community halls, etc. “The reason for setting up these helpdesks is to make sure that every single voter has his/her name in it. The local helpdesks can be visited by the Mumbaikars in case they want to enroll their names in the list or want to make certain changes in their existing voter-ID cards,” stated Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani.

Further, Kakani stated that on Friday he had a meeting with the senior officials to discuss the main elements of the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections in 2022. He stated that as declared earlier the elections will be taking place according to the census of 2011. As the situation of pandemic prevails the number of voting booths will be increasing from 8,000 to 11,000 so that the protocol for social distancing is not violated. As per the census of 2011, there are a total of 96 lakh voters in the city of Mumbai and the average turnout comes at 50 percent. In the last elections in 2017, the voter turnout was seen at 55 percent.
