BMC is now seeking BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) physicians and outreach service specialists to expand the reach of the Hinduhridayasamrat Balasaheb Thackeray (HBT) clinics. Additionally, it is seeking additional nurses and midwives (ANM). At the 66 HBT clinics where more than two lakh patients have been treated so far, there are currently MBBS and MD doctors who examine patients. By January 26, the civic organisation hopes to open 100 more clinics.
The BMC has stated intentions to establish 227 HBT clinics along the lines of Delhi's "mohalla clinics" or community clinics in its 2022–23 budget. The HBT clinics strive to offer Mumbaikars free access to basic medical care as well as diagnostic and pathological treatment options, including X-Ray and ECG services.
The civic organisation began opening 66 clinics and polyclinics in phases starting on October 2, 2022. At the moment, polyclinics have gynecologists, pediatricians, dermatologists, doctors, and dentists, while HBT clinics have MBBS doctors.
However, the BMC is currently recruiting contractual BAMS doctors for outreach activities and is willing to pay Rs 42,000 per month. ANMs would also receive Rs 22,000 per month. The preference will go to those with prior experience working in Covid settings. These doctors will be employed at the HBT clinics, according to BMC Executive Health Officer Dr. Mangala Gomare, although their duties would not include patient examinations. They will specifically engage the public with community health workers and monitor patients who have high blood pressure and diabetes.
The HBT clinics see an average of 100 patients per day for treatment, while the polyclinics see 40–50 patients per day for examinations, according to the BMC's Health Department. According to the official, "The HBT clinic will treat minor illnesses, but if the issue is severe, patients will be directed to the closest HBT polyclinic," adding that the polyclinics are also excited to hire ENT experts, ophthalmologists, physiotherapists, and other medical professionals.
