The rift between Gurudas Kamat and Sanjay Nirupam seemed to be out in the open with the former missing the event organized by the latter at Marine Drive to mark late Rajiv Gandhi’s 72th birth anniversary.

Barring Kamat, all top Congress leaders, including state Congress chief Ashok Chavan and former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan joined Nirupam at Marine Drive to form a human chain.

But Nirupam has maintained that there is no infighting in the party and that he is reaching out to everyone so that they fight the BMC polls as a single unit.

“The human chain was a joint event of all leaders and a huge success. I want to thank every leader for chipping in. It was decided by the core committee to hold it, of which Gurudasji is also a part of,” Nirupam said on Saturday.

Nirupam said he had informed Kamat in advance and personally asked him to be part of the human chain. “He was present at Cooperage grounds, where I requested him to join us for the human chain too.”
