BMC Election 2022
The former MP and minister, Gurudas Kamat and his allies have been left out in the cold in this Mumbai Municipal Polls 2017

It seems that the Mumbai Congress chief, Sanjay Nirupam, is having the last laugh. Almost a month after former Congress minister Gurudas Kamat quit the party and then reluctantly withdrew his resignation, the veteran leader and his allies have been side-lined from the party’s BMC municipal election campaign.

Kamat and all his men have been kept away from nearly all the key election committees. According to the committee list sent to Rahul Gandhi for approval, Naseem Khan will head the Congress’s most important committee comprising Chandrakant Handore, Bhai Jagtap and Janardhan Chandurkar.

The campaign committee will be led by former MP Milind Deora while Priya Dutt and legislator Varsha Gaikwad will draft the party manifesto.

Former legislator Charan Singh Sapra will head the mass contact committee while former minister Suresh Shetty will lead the poll strategy team.

“We all thought that Kamatji would be part of the campaign but this list clearly side-lines him. If the high-command approves the list, it will be an indication that the party is not happy with him,” a senior Congress leader said.

Sanjay Nirupam, said, ” The committee formation is still under process. Nothing is final yet. I have reached out to everyone and discussing what work they can do for the party. I will also speak to Gurudasji and take him into confidence. He is a senior leader and we will speak to him. Only a draft list is ready now and it is not final,” Nirupam said.

“We are going into the BMC polls as a single unit and there is no infighting at all.”
