The 'Vruksha Sanjivani Abhiyan' (tree revival effort), which was organized by the BMC's garden department from April 18 to April 23, came to a halt in Chandivli last week. A tree fell outside the Boomerang Business Centre on Farm Road in Chandivli as the campaign was in progress. The question of whether the tree held the cables or the wires held the tree is no longer relevant.

Residents claim that instead of removing the cables and wires around the tree, the BMC chopped down the entire tree; photos of the incident have been posted numerous times on Twitter. @mulund info was the first to tweet photos of the tree, writing: "Na rahega baans, na bajegi bansuri!"

Another user tagged environmental activist Zoru Bhathena, who responded: From photographs, it looks like the tree base has snapped (therefore the tree has fallen). Doubt it has anything to do with the wires linked to it. More information, however, may only be obtained through a site visit. This image resembles the base of a fallen tree, which has no roots to support it.

The accusation has been rejected by officials from the BMC Garden Department. Hundreds of wires were tethered to the tree, allowing it to stand. The entire tree toppled when we disconnected the wires. It has been removed from its original location." The Arbor Day Foundation, an American non-profit membership organization dedicated to tree planting, recently named Mumbai one of the world's tree cities. Concrete bases, which inhibit tree growth, have been replaced with healthy soil in some cases, according to city officials.
