Gone are the days of manually filing the nomination form. With Digital India, now candidates contesting for the civic body polls, need to fill the application form online.
The State Election Commission, on Wednesday , announced that candidates contesting civic elections in Thane, Mumbai and other towns in the state will have to declare information concerning their nominations, including details of properties, family or even involvement in criminal activities in a prescribed format online.
The process is detailed as under:
Candidates can access the form through its website https://mahasec.maharashtra.gov.in/
The candidates will have to register on the site, login and fill nomination forms in the prescribed format and note the registration number that will be generated.
Following this, the candidates will have to print the applications and send it to the returning officer along with supporting documents.
The exercise will ensure that errors are minimized and rejection of nomination forms is reduced.
“We have trained our staff and also requested political parties to train their workers so that they can help in the form filing process,“ said state election commissioner J S Saharia on Wednesday, while announcing the elections for Mumbai, Thane and other civic bodies in the state.
The information submitted by candidates about their family details, property and involvement in any criminal activities will have to be substantiated with affidavits later.Also, submission of the receipt of payment of security deposit and caste validation certificate will have to be intimated later.
Civic employees as well as cyber cafe owners will soon be trained so that they can help candidates with the form filing process. “We are in the process of finalizing the schedule for imparting training to our staff from ten facilitation centres and for some select cyber cafe owners,“ said Omprakash Divate, deputy civic commissioner in-charge of the election process at the Thane Municipal Corporation.
