On Thursday, the Mumbai Cyber Police investigated Jiten Gajaria of the BJP Maharashtra's social media cell after serving him with a summons to appear before them for questioning in connection with his offensive tweets directed at the wife of state Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Gajaria had tweeted a photo of the Chief Minister's wife, referring to her as Marathi Rabri Devi. Gajaria, according to police, sent a contentious tweet on social media, captioning a photo of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's wife Rashmi Thackeray as "Marathi Rabri Devi." The tweet was issued in relation to the CM's health difficulties, hinting that his wife will take over his role, similar to how Rabri Devi took over in Bihar after her husband Lalu Prasad was forced to quit over the fodder scam.
Gajaria was released after police conducted an investigation, but they have not given him a clean bill of health or made any arrests in the matter. "The cyber police issued him a letter to be present at the police station without disclosing the reason or who is the complaint," said Vivekanand Gupta, his lawyer and a BJP Secretary.
This comes at a time when the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2022 are around the corner and all the parties are in the competition. The opposition has already taken a jibe at the ruling in the state with the health conditions the Chief Minister is facing, due to which he has been at the centre of the opposition to which he recently replied that he is silently taking attacks against him.
