According to authorities, Maharashtra Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde has received a letter from Naxals threatening to avenge the killing of their comrades in the state's Gadchiroli district. The letter was delivered to Shinde's residence here on Friday, and his security was increased as a result, according to a district official. Shinde is also the Guardian Minister of Thane and Gadchiroli.

Later, the minister stated that the only way to combat the Naxal threat in Gadchiroli was through development. In a shootout with police in Gadchiroli area last November, 26 Naxals were killed, including one of their top commanders. A report received by Thane police in connection with the threatening letter has been turned over to the crime branch for inquiry, according to the official.

Shinde told reporters on Saturday night that he had received similar threats in the past. "It is my responsibility as the guardian minister of Gadchiroli to look after the district. Our goal is to develop the area holistically and integrate it into society. The only way to combat Naxalites in the region is to develop infrastructure "Shinde remarked.
