Central Railway: Drop-in number of commuters travelling without masks on Mumbai’s local trains
Positive development can be noticed amid the ongoing situation of the pandemic, as a notable drop has been observed by the Central Railway (CR) in commuters travelling without masks on Mumbai’s local. But passengers travelling without face masks have increased in the Western Railway (WR).

The Government Railway Police (GRP) had booked 330 commuters in June who were without masks on CR trains and stations and a total fine of 66,800 was collected in comparison to May for 777 commuters for the same offence. The Passenger Associations have asked the railways and State Government to take strict checking of commuters in the local trains.

“It is no doubt positive news that the list of people who broke the rules has been decreased but still the railway and State Government should check inside the train compartment for the passengers who are not following the rules of wearing face masks. Squad teams should be organised by railways for inspection inside the compartments. When the trains are in operation once again after a long break there will be a requirement of such team at that point of time,” stated Subhash Gupta, President of Passengers’ Association Rail Yatri Parishad.
