The Supreme Court has lauded the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for handling the Covid-19 situation in Mumbai during the major medical oxygen crisis in the country. This comes against the backdrop of a decline in the daily corona virus cases of financial capital.  The Bombay Municipal Corporation has done some remarkable work without showing disrespect to Delhi, but we can see what BMC has done,”Justice Chandrachud said. One may now wonder why Mumbai is handling the second wave better than Delhi.

The international weekly The Economist is credited with "prudent governance structure, decentralization and data-based planning."  The article goes on to say that coordinated efforts through the distribution network of 23 BMC battle rooms have led to an efficient bed.

Management. While explaining the difference between the Delhi and Mumbai authorities in handling the second wave, he pointed out that the unified command network in Mumbai, as opposed to overlapping the authorities in Delhi, has led to better management in the case of Mumbai. In the case of Delhi, the article says that Delhi's shortcomings may be due to the neighbours.  Explaining how patients come to Delhi from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, he said, “The city borders are expanding to take over the most urbanized parts of the two states.

At the same time, the number of active cases across Mumbai last month as a silver lining to Lockdown has dropped by 34.53 per cent.  As of April 6, there were 77,495 active cases, according to BMC figures.  As of May 6, it had dropped to 54,472. Officials attributed the decline to measures taken last month, including the Break the Chain mission and the implementation of stricter controls. At the same time, the number of cases reported daily for the past one week is less than 5,000 and it is expected to decrease by next week.

BMC Additional Municipal Corporation Suresh Kakani said the restrictions helped control it.  We urge citizens to strictly adhere to the COVID-19 standards, so this trend continues to decline.  Moreover, 87% of active cases are asymptomatic.  He said only two per cent to three per cent were critical and needed to be hospitalized.  Kakani said their main concern was to reduce the death toll.  All COVID-19 hospitals are instructed to follow Mission Save Lives.  “Every death is unfortunate.

However, looking at the overall picture, the daily mortality rate is still below 0.6.  In October-November 2020, our overall mortality rate was reduced from 5 to 2.1,”Kakani said.  "The city's mortality rate due to COVID - 19 this month is lower than the national average," he added. A member of the state task force said the disease was likely to change.  Rahil Pandit said. From the first week to 10 days, the young remain asymptomatic but go to the hospital with a cytokine storm,”he said.  Cytokine storms are a severe immune response in which the body rapidly releases too many cytokines or proteins into the bloodstream.
