The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has projected that the third wave may hit the city in September. BMC assured that it will scale COVID-19 beds by over 10,000 and the civic body will also set up 16 oxygen plants across the city.  Malad, Kanjurmarg, Sion, and Mahalakshmi are being set up with additional facilities. The civic administration said that it is ready to handle double the number of cases now in comparison to numbers seen in the second wave (March, April, and May 2021). Currently, the bed occupancy is low as 10% to 20% on some days.

Suresh Kakani Additional municipal commissioner said BMC is now prepared for the worst situations of the pandemic. COVID-19 cases were doubled in the second wave as compared to the first wave, if we assume the same in the 3rd wave then BMC is fully prepared to handle the scenario. We are stocking up the medicines and ramping up the infrastructure. If we go past trends post unlock then the third wave is likely to hit the city in September. The state health department made a presentation on Wednesday for Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray regarding the same.
