Corporator criticise as BMC transfer to gather tax from tenants dwelling in civic properties
After the decision taken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to collect property tax from folks residing in civic body-owned properties, the corporator and the Chief Opposition Ravi Raja criticised this decision stating that the hire was already acquired by the company from these tenants. He further said that if property tax is collected from such tenants, that could be an injustice.  
 
In a round issued in December 2020 and the property tax payments issued to tenants dwelling in municipal properties, the civic physique had brought up that taxes would be acquired by them retrospectively in April 2017. Ravi Raja in the standing committee on Wednesday stated that “Rent is already being paid by such houses and with this, the administration has also issued them property tax bills.
 
If it is the property of the Municipal Corporation why is the body expecting tenants to pay the property tax? He further stated, that there have been 74,000 tenants who reside on municipal properties throughout the town and have been issued payments working into 1000’s rupees. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration will submit its reply within the matter subsequent week.
