BJP corporator Rajan Padhye has brought a notice of motion in the BMC general assembly demanding a two per cent concession in property tax to housing societies which segregate dry and wet waste. The wet waste will then be used to create compost within the premises, and Padhye has urged that BMC bear half the cost of the composter.

“Waste needs to be segregated at the source. And a concession in property tax will give housing societies additional incentive to participate in the cause. As of dry waste, city-based NGOs can help the civic body dispose of it,” Padhye said.

The notice of motion will be placed before the BMC general assembly on Friday. If passed, it can come into immediate effect after the municipal commissioner’s approval.
