Parents are ready to enroll their children in private schools based on the lottery decision as to the Right to Education procedure for the academic year 2022-23 gets underway. The process for parents to admit their children to the school is set to expire on April 20, 2022, while the full admission process is set to end on September 30, 2022.

Some metropolitan schools are charging RTE kids for uniforms and books, and parents are concerned about the added expenditures. A kid attending a school referred to in sections 2, and 12 is entitled to free textbooks, writing materials and uniforms under the RTE Act 2009, Part 3, Section 5(1) of the Maharashtra Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2011.

"We are requested to pay activity fees," said Jyoti Salvi, a parent from Mumbai. "Thankfully, they have consented to pay in installments." In addition, we must pay an extra 6-7 thousand for books and uniforms, which the school will provide. We will be able to pay this year, but what if the costs grow in the future? We will have to change schools."

Parents have alleged that their children are discriminated against in addition to the fee. "Our children endure prejudice at school," says Vijay Kanojiya, a parent and RTE activist. RTE students are separated from the rest of the class. My child's school recently denied her a cap, which caused her to weep, and she inquired as to why she didn't receive one when her peers did.

"We have reported the issue with the Education Department, and they are looking into it," he continued. FPJ spoke with stakeholders and Education Department officials about the difficulties that kids and parents confront. However, schools and the Department of Education do not share the same attitude.

Schools are required to provide all facilities to RTE pupils, according to the RTE 25 percent rules and sections. "Schools receive RTE reimbursement just for tuition fees," said Devidas Mahajan, an Education Inspector from the South Zone. "Schools charge other expenditures such as uniforms and textbooks that they are not permitted to charge eventually."
