In the face of personal attacks from his estranged ally BJP, particularly for his absence from the recently concluded winter session of the state legislature and his inability to work following spine surgery, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray finally broke his silence, saying he would respond to the charges at a later date. He urged party leaders to prepare for the upcoming elections in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Last night, Thackeray had a virtual meeting with party leaders, including MPs, legislators, corporators, Shakha Pramukh and Vibhag Pramukh, to discuss the preparations for the impending BMC elections.
"I'm aware that I'm being criticised personally, and I'm silently accepting it." At this time, I do not wish to respond to the same. Now prepare for the forthcoming BMC elections," Thackeray advised. He instructed the corporators, in particular, to increase voter outreach by showcasing the development projects completed in the previous five years. "Voters must recognize the job that has already been done," he said.
Thackeray, on the other hand, urged the leaders to ignore the BJP's attacks on him and instead focus on the BMC elections. When the BJP launched Mission 2022 to defeat the Shiv Sena and obtain a majority by winning mayoral and deputy mayoral elections, his directive to party corporators and leaders is critical.
When several BJP politicians continuously targeted Thackeray after his spine surgery, stating they wouldn't be surprised if his wife Rashmi Thackeray was named CM, Thackeray broke his quiet. A few BJP leaders claimed that senior Shiv Sena Minister Eknath Shinde is capable of handling the CM's job, while others praised Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar for his involvement in the government and legislature's functioning. Meanwhile, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis said it would be preferable if Thackeray paid more attention to Maharashtra rather than criticising him.
