CM Uddhav Thackeray Revert to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari

With the ongoing second wave of Covid-19 and the threat of third wave the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has decided to carry a two-day monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislature. The Chief Minister mentioned the same reason for the delay in holding the assembly speaker’s election.
 
Without the violation of any constitutional provision, the deputy speaker has been given the charge in absence of the speaker and the speaker’s election will be carried out at the right time, added the Chief Minster Uddhav Thackeray. In reply to the letter written by Maharashtra Governor BS Koshyari dated June 24th the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray wrote that the state is inclined to conduct the elections for the speaker’s post but in view of the ongoing pandemic, until every legislature goes through an RT-PCR test for Covid-19 the program cannot resume. The elections will be conducted following all steps and procedures at an appropriate time added the Chief Minister.
 
Chief Minister in the letter wrote that the Maharashtra Government has asked for postponement of local- bodies elections. The Chief Minister further added that the state Government is agitated over the OBC’s political reservation and has also uplifted the issue in a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking for a permanent constitutional solution for the issue. With this the state government has also requested central government to hand over the data of the OBC which is required to determine backwardness of the category, for political reservation.
 
CM Uddhav Thackeray in the letter also requested the Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari to follow up the issue with the Centre at his level to get factual data for the state to take further steps. Recently, the Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari wrote a letter to CM Uddhav Thackeray asking him to look upon the issue raised by the Leader of Opposition(LoP) Devendra Fadnavis.
