CM may decide on strict lockdown in next 2 days

MUMBAI: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said he will take a tough lockdown in the next two days as the existing restrictions have not worked to prevent Covid-19.  The Minister for Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation told reporters that the state government would study the lockdown imposed by the Delhi government before taking a decision.

 

"The current curfew is not helping as expected (including the expansion of Covid-19). A decision on a strict lockdown is expected in a day or two. The CM will take a call after consulting with others," he said.  Wadettivar had previously claimed that traders and shopkeepers were opposed to the imposition of the lockdown, but now they support such a move.  The minister said the department was studying the issue of lockdown. We will take information on how trains and essential services are provided there (in Delhi) before making any decision. 

 

He said.  Since April 14, the Maharashtra government has imposed 15-day "lockdown" restrictions.  Transmission of corona virus. Addressing the people of the state through social media on the night of April 13, Thackeray announced tough restrictions and cut off the movement and necessary activities of the people.

 

Thackeray had said that Section 144 of the CRPC, which prohibits the gathering of five or more people in one place, would come into force during this period, but avoided calling the new restrictions "lock down".  These restrictions are in addition to the weekend lockdowns and other restrictions that remain in effect until April 30 under the 'Break the Chain' Covid-19 action plan.
