The Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis has issued orders to the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) to give away the 27 SOBO (South Mumbai) plots to the Mumbai Metro Railway Corporation (MMRC) for the Metro III project for Rs 25,000 crore.

As ths proposal was rejected by the civic general body earlier in March this year, this call taken by Devendra Fadnavis, has left all the opposition parties raise their voices. The ruling Shiv Sena had received support from the opposition parties – Congress and other elected representatives of the MCGM at the civic general body meeting.

The CM is looking forward to start the work on Metro III by October so as to achieve substantial progress, keeping an eye on the State Elections to be held in 2019.

A senior civic official, on the condition of anonymity, said, “To our notice we have learnt that we have to hand over the plot to the MMRC as the CM has used his special powers under section 52 of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act (MMC)”.
